WELLINGTON COUNTY – Several areas in Wellington County including Fergus will be making requests to the provincial Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing on the heels of a reversal from the province.
Modifications on Official Plan Amendment 119 have left many municipalities uncertain about the future of their lands.
The original OPA would expand the urban boundary of many municipalities including Centre Wellington.
The exceptions to the reversed legislation would be when “construction has begun” or where doing so “would contravene existing provincial legislation and regulation.”
County Director of Planning and Development Aldo Salis says the Town of Minto and Clifford will be looking to be deemed one of those exceptions.
Salis went on to say one Fergus development will have an application submitted to be exempt. Salis added it is due to it being far along in the process.
Salis stated he has no evidence of this being a quick process, but that’s his instinct.
The Deputy Minister confirmed in a call with Salis the date of this new provincial approval has yet to be determined.
Consideration of municipal costs related to provincial modifications will be considered beyond a 45-day commenting deadline.
