ELORA – A 247-unit subdivision has been approved for Elora’s northern edge following concerns from residents regarding urban sprawl and local wildlife in the area.
Proposed by James Keating Construction, the project will include 117 single homes, 62 townhouse units, and a 58-unit apartment building on a 53-acre lot west of Gerrie Road.
The application first came to the township in 2018 and has undergone changes after a public meeting in 2021.
Manager of planning services, Mariana Iglesias, told council say one third of the site now has natural heritage protection.
Also included in the plans is a buffer of single-storey homes to be built around a heritage home located on the property, for privacy and to allow a more gradual transition to high density housing.
Apartment buildings will be a maximum four storeys.
It is expected that Walser Street will become a major artery and under the proposal will be extended to Gerrie Road.
The decision by council was unanimous.
