MINTO – Minto staff has been given council’s support to allow the Clifford urban boundary expansion lands to remain in place.
In May, the province revised Wellington County’s Official Plan 119, which addresses and manages the county’s mandated population and housing growth to 2051.
Last week, the province’s housing minister tabled legislation that would officially reverse those changes to the urban boundaries.
A report presented at Tuesday’s council meeting by Terry Kuipers, the towns director of building and planning services said staff are supportive of keeping the additional 15 acres of land saying it has the servicing capacity.
According to the report Kuipers says an MCR process showed that Clifford is the only urban centre within the County that has calculated municipal water and sanitary capacity beyond 2051.
Mayor Dave Turton expressed his support for the resolution.
Kuipers says even with councils support, ultimately it will be the provinces decision.
Staff will now forward the town’s support of keeping the lands in the urban boundary to the province for consideration.
