Now living in Salem, Hirdes says he is researching care of older adults and does mental health related research.
He told the Grand at 101 he’s a part of a 40 country research network, and is the lead Canadian researcher for the group.
Hirdes, when asked about the honour of being named to the Order of Canada, said this distinction is the culmination of years of effort.
Hirdes added being able to represent Centre Wellington on a large scale is exciting.
His research team develops clinical assessment tools that get used in regular practice. Hirdes told the Grand at 101 he would give several pieces of advice to those looking to enter his field.
Hirdes became one of 78 newly added individuals to the Order of Canada on Thursday.
