MOUNT FOREST – A school in Mount Forest is closed following an early morning structure fire.
Wellington North Fire Service says at around 6:15am Thursday, crews responded to a report of a structure fire on Parkside Drive in Mount Forest.
“Upon arrival there was flames visible coming through the roof of St. Mary Catholic Elementary School,” the department said in a joint news release.
No occupants were inside the building at the time of the fire, and there are no reported injuries.
“The origin and cause of the fire is not yet determined. The fire is not considered suspicious,” officials said.
There is no damages estimate at this time.
Meanwhile, the Wellington Catholic District School Board says it is developing a temporary accommodation plan to support the continuity of learning for students.
“We will continue to provide updates to our families on this situation when available.”
The school is closed today, January 25th to students and staff.
Friday, January 26th is scheduled as a professional development day across elementary schools in the Wellington Catholic District School Board and there will be no school for students tomorrow.
“We are grateful for the efforts of our local fire department for their immediate response this morning in attending to this issue,” the school board said.
