NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has consolidated and streamlined notable traffic offences with a single release.
On January 6, 2024, Wellington County OPP responded to a reported fail to remain collision at a Mapleton public building on Main Street West, Drayton. It was reported that on January 4, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m., a burgundy Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) had struck a steel pillar damaging a canopy support. As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old driver from Drayton, was charged with Failing to Report an Accident, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.).
On January 11, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. At approximately 2:30 a.m., a grey sedan was observed traveling well above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old from Guelph was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Performed Stunt – Excessive Speed, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court Guelph, on May 17, 2024.
On January 11, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was morning traffic on Highway 6 South, Guelph. At approximately 9:00 p.m., a silver sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old driver from Guelph, has been charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed and Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on April 17, 2024.
On January 12, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, north of Guelph. At approximately 12:00 a.m., the driver of a black S.U.V. was traveling above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old driver from Arthur has been charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (C.A.I.A.) and with Speeding, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court Guelph on May 17, 2024.
On January 12, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a disabled commercial vehicle on Sideroad 27, Erin. It was reported that a dump truck was disabled on a posted a No Tucks Zone portion of road. As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old driver from Brampton has been charged with disobey sign.
On January 13, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black sedan on Highway 89, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old driver from Mount Forest has been charged with two counts of Driving while Under Suspension, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on April 17, 2024.
On January 13, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109, Minto. At approximately 1:30 p.m., the driver of a grey sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old driver from Minto, has been charged with Driving while Under Suspension contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on April 17, 2024.
On January 14, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Sideroad 19, Fergus. At approximately 2:30 p.m., the driver of a white minivan was stopped. As a result of the investigation a, 40-year-old driver from Arthur, has been charged with Driving while Suspended and with Fail to Yield from Private Road, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on April 17, 2024.
On January 14, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Elora Steet South, Harriston. At approximately 3:15 p.m., the driver of a grey coupe was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old of Harriston, has been charged with Operation while Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with Driving while Suspended and Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle contrary to the H.T.A. In addition, the driver was also charged with Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the C.A.I.A. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on March 8, 2024.
On January 14, 2024, at approximately 4:15 PM, Wellington County OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 7, Guelph/Eramosa. It was reported that a black sedan was being driven erratically. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old of Etobicoke, was charged with Operation While Impaired (Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.) 80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of justice – Guelph, on February 2, 2024.
On January 15, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 124, Erin. At approximately 1:00 a.m., a black sedan was observed traveling well above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation a 30-year-old driver from the Erin has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on April 17, 2024.
On January 15, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on York Road, Guelph. At approximately 9:15 a.m., the driver of a white commercial pickup truck we stopped for a Commercial Motor Vehicle (C.M.V.) inspection. As a result, a 30-year-old driver from Owen Sound faces numerous C.M.V. charges, including, Defective Breaking System, Overweight Vehicle, and Fail to Surrender Daily Inspection Report contrary to the H.T.A. A total eight C.M.V. were identified.
On January 15, 2024, a member. on the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols on a section of Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (O.F.S.C.) trail near Fergus. At approximately 8:15 p.m., two snowmobiles failed to stop for when directed to. As a result of the investigation, two 18-year-old operators from Fergus, have been charged with Fail to Stop When Signaled, contrary to the Off-Road Vehicles Act (O.R.V.A.).
On January 16, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Eliza Street, Arthur. At approximately 1:15 p.m., the driver of a white commercial van and trailer was stopped for a C.M.V. inspection. As a result of the investigation, a business from Meaford faces numerous C.M.V. charges including, Drive Motor Vehicle No Valid Permit, Improper Breaking System and Operation of Vehicle Failed to Display Inspection Sticker, contrary to the H.T.A. A total of six C.M.V. offences had been identified.
On January 16, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to the report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 9, Minto. It was reported that a grey sedan had been involved in a rollover. As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old driver from North York, has been charged with Careless Driving and Novice Driver Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.) above zero contrary to the H.T.A. Further, the driver was also charged with Having Care Control Motor Vehicle with an Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor License Control Act (L.L.C.A.). The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on May 15, 2024.
On January 18, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 12, Mapleton. At approximately 3:00 p.m., the driver of a black sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old driver from Kitchener, has been charged with Driving Motor Vehicle – Performed Stunt, contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on May 15, 2024.
On January 18, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 South, Puslinch. At approximately 3:30 p.m., the driver of a white pickup and trailer was stopped for a C.M.V. inspection. As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old driver from Cambridge faces numerous C.M.V. charges including, Operate Commercial Motor Vehicle No Valid C.V.O.R. Certificate and Drive Motor Vehicle No Currently Valid Permit, contrary to the H.T.A. A total of five C.M.V. offences had been identified.
On January 18, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Belsyde Avenue East, Fergus. At approximately 7:00 PM, the driver of a grey S.U.V. was stopped. As a result of an investigation, a 27-year-old driver from Fergus, has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court – Guelph, on May 15, 2024.
On January 20, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrolling on Ferrier Court, Fergus. At approximately 12:15 a.m., the operator of a black sedan was located asleep in the driver seat. As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old of Centre Wellington, has been charged with Operation while Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with Possession of Schedule I Substance – Opioid and Position of Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on March 12, 2024.
On January 20, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. At approximately 5:30 a.m., a grey sedan was observed traveling well above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old driver from Pickering, has been charged with Driving Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appeared provincial offences court – Guelph, on May 15, 2024.
On January 20, 2024, at approximately 10 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Wellington Road 124, east of Watson Parkway. It was reported that the driver of a brown sedan was stopped in a live lane of traffic and was asleep. As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old of Guelph, has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Dangerous Operation and Failing to Comply with a Demand for Breath, contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle with an Open Container of Liquor contrary to the L.L.C.A. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of justice – Guelph, on February 9, 2024.
On January 20, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was conducting patrols on a section of O.F.S.C. trail near Palmerston. At approximately 1:30 p.m., a green snowmobile was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old of Sarnia was charged with Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code. Further, the operator was also charged with Drive Motorized Snow Vehicle Permit Not Issued and Drive No Insurance, contrary to the M.S.V.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph on May 15, 2024.
On January 20, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was patrolling Mill Street, Harriston. At approximately 4:00 p.m., the driver of a white sedan was stopped. As result of the investigation, a 62-year-old driver from Harriston, has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the H.T.A. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on May 15, 2024.
On January 20, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Queen Street, Puslinch. It was reported that a white S.U.V. and a silver S.U.V. had been involved. As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old of Guelph, has been charged with Impaired Operation, Impaired Operation (B.A.C. 80 plus) and Dangerous Driving, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on February 9, 2024.
*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired – B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.
*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
