CENTRE WELLINGTON – A notice of motion from Mayor Shawn Watters in Centre Wellington was passed after being slightly amended and generating much discussion between council at a meeting on Monday.
The notice of motion was for staff to investigate the feasibility of a childhood care facility in Belwood, including the collaboration and coordination between other levels of government and community partners.
While Watters stated there would need to be some “homework” done on this, councillor Lisa MacDonald among others agreed there is a distinct need for more of these types of services in the township.
Council concerns included the lack of capacity and staffing for a project like this.
Watters, though was steadfast in the distinct need for this type of facility in the community, and says conversations he’s had have led him to believe he’s not alone in his interest.
He went on to say these issues don’t just fall into the jurisdiction of one entity.
The amended motion will include the requirement of letters of intent to be circulated from stakeholders as the project moves forward.
