ELORA – It was a “milestone moment” for the Elora Centre for the Arts, when they received confirmation of $1,259,429 in funding from the Government of Canada through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund.
That brings total funds for their ‘dynamic’ expansion project to $3.4 million, according to a news release.
“These are exciting times for the Arts Centre”, said Molly Kleiker, the Director of Development for the Centre.
“We’re getting ready to break ground on a 3,500 square foot expansion, which will include a multi-use Atrium for performances, exhibitions, and community events, an expanded kitchen, and much-needed fully accessible washrooms. We’re currently turning away more than half of requests to use our space. As a cultural and artistic hub for the community, the Centre will soon be ready to serve our area at full capacity,” she added.
The centre says it has seen unprecedented growth since 2016. Thousands of people have enjoyed a broad range of activities, including art programs for adults and youth, after school activities, and multimedia programs.
“It’s incredible to see how far our expansion plans have come since they were first conceptualized in 2019. While the Arts Centre already serves as a focal point of connection and creative expression for area residents and visitors, this increased space and accessibility is crucial for us to continue serving an ever-growing community demand,” stated the centre’s executive director Lianne Carter in the media release.
Construction for the expansion is set to begin in the fall of 2024.
