MAPLETON – Mapleton could soon be joining a joint fire chief agreement with the municipalities of Minto and Wellington North. The new agreement would start at the beginning of April.
The agreement would automatically terminate on April 1st, 2034 (the “Term”), subject to extension or earlier termination in accordance with this agreement.
A report states that if Minto were interested in expanding this agreement further to include another municipality, so long as extra staff were hired to accommodate the growth, they could do so.
Minto would need the approval of the other involved municipalities.
Minto would cover 40 per cent of fire related expenses, and the other two municipalities would pay 30 per cent each.
Were one of the townships excluding Minto to opt out of the agreement, the shift would see Minto cover 60 per cent and the remaining township 40 per cent.
An advisory committee would be formed consisting of the CAO and one member of council from each municipality, meeting at least one time of year with the Fire Services Management Team.
The agreement will be put forward at Monday’s 7 p.m. meeting in Wellington North.
