WELLINGTON NORTH – A building near Mount Forest is considered a total loss following a Thursday morning structure fire.
In an email Deputy Fire Chief Callise Loos said the call came in around 4:36am as a reported structure fire with flames and smoke visible near Wellington Road 6 and Sideroad 4.
“Upon arrival, crews began defensive operations due to the conditions of the fire and the amount of combustible material in the building. The building was a facility that manufactured wood pallets,” Loos said.
Stations from Minto Fire and Mapleton Fire Rescue were called in to assist with man power and tanker support.
Loos says there were around 60 firefighters on scene.
“The building is a total loss. The area of origin and cause was narrowed down to the area surrounding the wood furnace.”
The damage estimate of the loss is around $2 million dollars.
There were no reported injuries to civilian or fire personnel.
“Wellington North Fire Service would like to thank those involved as the weather and size of the building created difficult conditions, not to mention the early morning wake up for firefighters. WNFS sends caring thoughts to the owners and employees of the business affected by the fire”, Loos said in the email.
