FERGUS – Fergus will soon be host to the Ontario Provincial Senior Broomball Championship.
Running March 15th-17th, the tournament will feature 47 teams including the host Palmerston Spades.
Organizer Brittany Dettman says while much like hockey, there are some distinct differences that make broomball its own entity, including custom shoes to run on ice and a broom-like stick.
She says the idea of Fergus hosting is exciting, with the prospect of more fans in the seats very possible.
Dettman went on to say those planning the tournament had to look outside of Fergus, to accommodate its rapid growth.
Dettman says it’s been long enough since the event landed in Fergus she can’t pin an exact date on it. She added she hopes to see the sport of broomball grow further.
Winners will head to nationals in Belleville. You can get a weekend pass for $20. Kids under 12 are free.
