WELLINGTON NORTH – A report to head before Wellington North council on Monday will provide an update on the state of the Mount Forest cemetery.
The township says the previously damaged facility was targeted by an unknown person or vehicle.
One of the four cement pillars was damaged as well as the metal sign that reads “Mount Forest Cemetery”.
The report also notes the fence surrounding the cemetery is aging and deteriorating.
Staff conclude repairing the fence would cost in excess of $100,000.
They have identified other options for the fence such as sandblasting or permanent removal.
The 2024 township budget accounts for $5,000 for the repair of the entrance, among other fix-ups around the cemetery that come with separate price tags.
Currently, however, work on the cemetery is not considered “urgent.”
Staff will have a report before council when the time for repairs comes.
