WELLINGTON COUNTY – A new report to the Social Services Committee in Wellington County recaps the key points from January’s Health and Housing Symposium and announces a follow-up event.
Taking place on April 17th, the secondary symposium will look to build off key objectives identified in January.
These objectives include helping people obtain and keep housing, the need for better connections and seamless communication between primary care, community health, and hospitals among others.
Also, an “overwhelming consensus” at the first meeting was the requirement of a new Health and Housing Community Plan that equitably represents those in urban and rural areas.
A new Health and Housing Community Planning Table has also been launched, with more members to be added following the next meeting.
The co-chairs of this table are the Director of Transformation from the Guelph Wellington Ontario Health Team, and the Administrator of Social Services for the county. The report says their work will prioritize integrating health and housing services.
It goes on to say it is expected the April symposium will lead to sub working groups that will support the new Wellington-Guelph Health and Housing Community Plan.
The report says 102 invited participants attended the January symposium, including 54 service providers, six municipal staff and 13 individuals with lived or living experience.
The meeting on the 17th is expecting a larger attendance.
