GUELPH – Fire officials from the Guelph Fire Department and Ontario Fire Marshal’s office are urging residents to make sure they have working smoke alarms in their homes.
This after officials confirmed that a fatal house fire in Guelph earlier this week did not have working smoke alarms.
At around 12:40am on Monday, crews were called to a house fire on Edinburgh Road South and Wilsonview Avenue.
Two women were killed and two others were able to escape and were treated at hospital for smoke inhalation and suffered minor injuries.
“We cannot stress enough the extreme importance of working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan that is practiced regularly. Test your alarms today and every month,” the Guelph Fire Department said in a post to social media.
The Guelph Fire Department also responded to two other house fires this week, where officials say had working smoke alarms alerting residents to get out of their homes.
However, the home on Edinburgh Road South where the two women died did not have working smoke alarms.
There is no update yet, on what caused the fires.
