ELORA – An artist from Elora is returning with a triumph to a local church, on the heels of an album release.
Kathy’s Café is one of several of Nathan Sloniowski’s songs that make reference to Centre Wellington’s landmarks and history. Bury the Hatchet explores the relationship between Fergus and Elora dating back to the 1860’s.
The Lost Love Letter to a Small Town in Sloniowski’s mind, is an ode to the era in which he lived in Elora in the ’70’s.
Sloniowski said he returned to Elora years later, with his wife, a Fergus native, and had a similar experience, overwhelmed by the artistic energy of Centre Wellington.
On June 8th, Sloniowski will return to perform in Elora at Knox-Elora Church. 50 per cent of proceeds will go towards restoration efforts for the church’s broken steeple, Sloniowski says.
Sloniowski says the idea was brought to him by the venue, intrigued by the message of his record.
The aforementioned song, Bury the Hatchet, the fourth of nine songs on The Lost Love Letter to a Small Town, he added has a rich backstory to it.
Sloniowski was sure to mention the opening act for the show in June in Elora, by the name of Madison Avenue. All members of the band are from Centre Wellington.
He went on to say the band members are also members of the Integrated Arts Program at Eastwood Collegiate.
Sloniowski urges those attending the concert to show up early and catch the indie-folk acoustic group.
The concert, he mentioned, will be a “neat way” to give back to a community he says he still has a lot of respect for.
