DRAYTON – ‘Wild Girlz,’ an art show put on by Drayton Heights Public School Junior students, is a fundraiser for both Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis and the Native Women’s Association of Canada.
Learning throughout the process the concept of pricing pieces, and dedicating themselves to their display through recesses, 32 girls were involved.
Teacher Noella Reynolds, who oversaw the project, says the piece she contributed alongside her students’ work created a very impactful moment for all.
‘Wild Girlz’ was originally in celebration of International Women’s Day at Silence Guelph. The show, featuring the student-made artwork, runs until May 3rd, at 46 Essex Street in Guelph.
Creating a concept for students that was without instruction or grading, Reynolds says this really brought out students’ creative sides.
Reynolds added the 32 students displayed a level of motivation she hadn’t seen in quite some time.
Reynolds says she believes the confidence and support shown between students while getting ready for the event was in part due to the all-girl teamwork that went on.
