CENTRE WELLINGTON – Adding what staff called “broader definitions” to adequately enforce noise township-wide, the definitions for noise locally have shifted.
Presented as a bylaw at Monday’s council meeting, the new document received pushback from an Elora resident.
Among other issues with the bylaw, resident Staci Baron said the fact that the new regulations are to be adopted county-wide is a red flag for her.
She added in her delegation among other notes, the ambiguity of certain sections of the document.
While Baron told council this was one of her major qualms with the bylaw, township clerk Kerri O’Kane said this is a necessary quality of the new regulations.
O’Kane told council the set fines have been pre-approved, and that this noise bylaw will be just one of the township’s assets in addressing noise in the township.
Minto, Puslinch and Wellington North have adopted the bylaw so far.
After much discussion, council decided to move forward with the bylaw Mayor Shawn Watters called a “living document.”
