MEDIA RELEASE CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION GUELPH AND WELLINGTON
Smile Cookie Week is back from April 29th till May 5th at Tim Hortons and the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington is proud to have been chosen as the charity of choice by 25 locations across the Guelph and Wellington area. Proceeds from Smile Cookie week help support over 100 student nutrition programs, supported by the Children’s Foundation’s Food & Friends Program.
“According to the Income Security for Food Security campaign, 1 in 4 children in Ontario live in food insecure homes,” says Karyn Kirkwood, Executive Director at the Children’s Foundation. “That is an unsettling fact, and we see that in our student nutrition programs, where sadly too many kids are needing to rely on what they receive at school as their main source of food in a day. With the cost of living continuing to rise, we expect to see a continued increase in students accessing our student nutrition programs, and with the rising cost of food, that puts even more strain on our programs. We are deeply grateful for the generous support of our local Tim Hortons’ owners and their teams who raise critical funds to ensure that all children have the nutritious food they need to thrive and learn at school.”
Last year, the Smile Cookie Campaign raised over $183,000 for the Children’s Foundation, which equates to over 73,000 meals for local students.
