GUELPH – A local martial artist claimed gold at the Canadian Open Martial Arts Championships this past weekend in Kitchener.
Nathan Skoufis, won gold 1st place in men’s adult fighting.
Competitors present were from throughout North America, martial arts stylist included Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Kickboxing, Kung Fu, and many more.
“The fighting winners are all brought together to compete for the Overall Grand Champion title, the heavyweight, lightweight, and senior fighting first-place winners all fight until one person is crowned the “overall all-weight champion,” a press release said.
Skoufis was crowned the overall champion.
Skoufis has now won the title for the eleventh straight year at the Canadian Open Championships breaking a martial arts record in the process.
A sport Skoufis started at the age of four, he is a Multiple Time World Champion, 6th Degree Black Belt, Member of Team Canada, and lifetime resident of the area.
