FERGUS – Arena fries could be returning to the Centre Wellington Sportsplex in Fergus.
A report going before Centre Wellington Council on Monday includes a recommendation for the township to execute a lease agreement with the owner of Somthin’ Fishee in Elora to operate the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex Concession Booth.
In March of 2020, the Sportsplex Concession closed due to COVID and it has remained closed based on financial analysis and attempts to change operations without successfully improving the bottom line.
The report says in March 2023, the township invited service clubs, individuals, local sports groups, private businesses, and not-for-profit organizations to submit an Expression of Interest for the operation of a food booth at the Sportsplex.
In June 2023, council endorsed that the Sportsplex Concession operates as a vendor-run facility and negotiated with the respondent of the Expression of Interest to define the scope of a proposed agreement.
Then in March of this year, the EOI closed and the township received two responses.
“Staff met with both respondents and through a competitive process selected a successful applicant to proceed with operating the Sportsplex Concession,” the report said.
Council will be recommended to execute a lease agreement with the owner of Somthin’ Fishee in Elora to operate the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex Concession Booth.
Staff also note entering into an agreement would provide additional revenue for the township of $300 per month.
Monday’s council meeting is scheduled for 2 pm at 1 Macdonald Square in Elora.
