FERGUS – A lease agreement was approved by Centre Wellington Council yesterday, that will see a local business operate the Centre Wellington Sportsplex Concession Booth.
In March 2020, the Sportsplex concession closed due to COVID and it has remained closed based on financial analysis and attempts to change operations without successfully improving the bottom line.
Last year, the township invited service clubs, individuals, local sports groups, private businesses, and not-for-profit organizations to submit an Expression of Interest for the operation of a food booth at the Sportsplex.
Matt Tucker, Manager of Recreation Facilities says in March of this year the expression of interest closed and the township received two responses.
During the meeting, Pat Newson, Managing Director of Community Services responded to some council members’ questions wondering what the plan would be if this contract comes to an end for whatever reason.
Council approved the lease agreement with the owner of Somthin’ Fishee in Elora to operate the Sportsplex Concession Booth.
The township will receive an additional revenue of $300 per month.
The one-year agreement will commence on September 1st, 2024, and end on August 31st, 2025.
