ERIN – The Town of Erin is moving ahead with plans to renovate the Erin Community Centre by awarding CPM Construction the tender.
CPM’s bid was the lowest at just over $2.9 million. About 1.2 million dollars will be included in next year’s budget including $600,000 to be funded through taxation.
Director of finance and treasurer Wendy Parr told council it could impact other capital projects in 2025. However, the grant the Town received for the project will expire if they don’t act now so the project must move ahead.
Parks and Recreation Officer, Dee-Enna Dube told council a lot of the renovations won’t be visible to people visiting the facility. Those renovations include, HVAC, electrical, fire system and roofing upgrades, and installing a generator. The generator will allow the facility to be used as an emergency centre if needed.
Some of the cosmetic improvements to the building include new flooring in the lower lobby, upgrades to the snack bar including replacing the countertop with stainless steel. The bathrooms will get new partitions, toilets and fixtures.
The project is estimated to take a year to complete.
