A proposed condo building for 19 East Mill Street in Elora got a redesign after the initial proposal was not well received by the public.
MHBC Planning’s Pierre Chauvin told Centre Wellington Council Monday night that they are now planning to construct a contemporary four-storey building that is “stepped back” to minimize the feel of the height. There will be commercial space on the ground floor with residential units above and a parking garage in the basement.
Chauvin says they are also restoring the heritage building currently on the site.
“Some of the things that we will be doing, obviously, is a conservation plan to look at how to preserve that stone building,” explained Chauvin. “We’ll be salvaging existing materials and trying to repurpose those into the new building.”
The new design will also include 11 surface level parking spaces and 22 parking spaces in the building’s lower levels.
The property will need to be rezoned from Residential/Core Greenlands to central business district since the plan calls for commercial spaces on the ground floor.
