CENTER WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington wants public input on implementing paid parking in the Township.
Mayor Shawn Watters says the Township hired R.J. Burnside and Associates a year ago to develop a Municipal Downtown Parking Strategy. Results showed that Elora’s parking supply will exceed demand in six years and demand for parking in Fergus will exceed supply in 17 years.
Watters says they need to be able to pay for a solution which could include a parking structure.
“We’re out there, asking questions again to get some input from the community with the idea that we are possibly moving towards paid parking,” said Watters.
Watters says in Elora, parking is already an issue with more than 500,000 visitors to the area a year.
Residents are being asked to consider three options:
- Option One – No Paid Parking and maintain 3-hour parking enforcement.
- Option Two – Paid Parking for everyone and maintain 3-hour parking enforcement.
- Option Three – Paid Parking for visitors only and maintain 3-hour parking enforcement.
The survey is open until Sunday, June 23. You can participate by visiting the Connect CW website.
