ROCKWOOD – The Special Investigations Unit is investigating the death of a 36-year-old man who died in police custody following his arrest in Arthur earlier this week.
According to a news release, the SIU says the man was taken into custody by OPP around 8:30pm on Tuesday and was initially held at the North Wellington Operations Centre in Teviotdale before being transferred to the Rockwood detachment later that night.
The next morning, the SIU says the man was observed to be in medical distress. First Aid was administered, and Emergency Medical Services transported the man to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The SIU has assigned three investigators and one forensic investigator to the case, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday to determine the cause of death.The investigation is ongoing.
