A world-wide phenomenon of candlelight concerts is coming to Guelph for the first time.
The live entertainment platform, Fever, is behind the Candlelight Concerts and a media release says they have attracted nearly three million spectators in more than 150 cities worldwide.
Andrew Bryan, team lead for Candlelight Canada says the performances include local musicians in a string quartet in “stunning locations illuminated by thousands of candles.”
“So you’ll find concerts set in intimate settings, so a pretty small audience in unique locations with nice architectural features surrounded by thousands of LED candles that add a nice visual element as well,” explained Bryan.
The release also said one of the goals of the Candlelight Concerts is to “democratize music.”
“The reviews are always extremely positive,” said Bryan. “We get a lot of new audiences, so about 80 per cent of our audience say that’s it’s their first classical music concert ever which I think is a fantastic milestone, a fantastic thing for people to say.”
Bryan said they try to hire local musicians and will be accepting applications for the Guelph performances. He said they may have to bring musicians from Toronto if needed.
There are two shows on September 20th, A Tribute to Taylor Swift and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. A Tribute to Coldplay is November 1st. All of the performances are at the Royal City Mission Church.
