ELORA – The Tourism Washroom project in Elora may have been approved but the garbage and recycling issue still persists.
During council earlier this week, staff had recommended adding Moloks at 10 East Mill Street, as a pilot project, aimed at removing trash and recycling in the area.
Moloks are a deep collection system that are considered cleaner and safer compared to above ground waste bins.
The funding donor for the washroom project agreed to pay for the installation of a series of the Moloks at the site. They would be owned by the Township.
At the meeting, council deferred a decision and requested staff return with more information.
A report to council stated challenges with installing Moloks in the downtown due to underground services that would prevent the installation but putting them with the washroom project would mean no underground services would be impacted.
The washrooms should be open for public use in the spring of 2025.
