The town of Erin has abandoned their new municipal logo after public outcry over the design.
Less then a month after the new logo was unveiled, town council has directed staff to dispense with the new logo and assemble variations of the previously reviewed icons, and conduct consultations with the public before implementation of a possible new design.
The staff direction follows a motion from Councillor John Brennan, at yesterday’s council meeting, to initiate an expedited rebranding process saying they had made a mistake in their decision making process by not allowing for meaningful public participation.
When the new logo was launched on September 13, the town was met with social media backlash saying it resembled many other logos.
Councillor Cathy Aylard said while she supports discontinuing the new logo, she has some concerns moving forward.
Taking another look at previously reviewed icons will save money according to Councillor Jaimie Cheyne, who said the only cost will be time spent in meetings and in public consultations.
The township is now in a “transition phase” as it will continue to use the now-abandoned logo in conjunction with the old municipal logo until a new recommendation is approved.
Before another logo decision is made, council will be made aware of any further costs surrounding a new logo implementation.
