MINTO – Minto council meetings will be moving to the afternoon, most of them anyway.
The Town of Minto has voted to change most council meetings to 3:00 p.m. beginning in 2025 ,following a notice of motion from Mayor Dave Turton, who said a lot of the reasoning comes down to finances.
CAO, Gregg Furtney, said evening meetings cost the town overtime pay and operational costs.
Deputy Mayor, Jean Anderson, said earlier meeting times could cause a decrease in both the number of people interested in becoming part of council and for the public who want to attend. Councillor Ed Podniewicz also shared concerns.
Following some back and forth debate, council also decided to hold one 7:00 p.m. meeting during certain months. Clerk, Annilene McRobb, read the finalized motion.
Council was told that amendments could be made should there need to be evening meetings if contentious issues were on the agenda.
