ELORA – The Elora Centre for the Arts (ECFTA) officially broke ground on its new addition, Thursday.
The Centre for the Arts was joined by Centre Wellington Mayor Shawn Watters, and participants from the Supportive Arts program, which offers art classes for adults with disabilities, as well as ECFTA board members, volunteers, and staff to mark the occasion.
This fall the Centre for the Arts will be constructing a 3,500-square-foot addition to its existing building that will feature:
- A multi-use space for community gatherings, performances, exhibitions and other events
- Fully accessible spaces, including universal washrooms
- A new servery-style kitchen and other hospitality infrastructure

Lianne Carter, Executive Director of the Elora Centre for the Arts says the need for this addition is huge.
“Right now, we’re bursting at the seams. We’re currently turning away more than half the requests we receive to use our space because we’re at capacity or because our space isn’t accessible. The community need is clear,” Carter said.
According to the Centre for the Arts, 84% of the $4.5 million in funds needed to make the expansion a reality has been raised. Residents are invited to donate to the project.
