ABOYNE – A remembrance ceremony was held this morning to honour Wellington County’s fallen.
Local legion members from Centre Wellington and across the County participated in the ceremony put on by the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
More than 500 memorial markers have been placed on the front lawn of the Museum, each bearing a name, honouring the fallen from the First World War, the Second World War, Korea, and Afghanistan.
Wellington County Warden Andy Lennox spoke at the ceremony saying the markers are a powerful visual reminder of the more than 500 individuals from Wellington County.
Lennox shared that for him personally, this year is especially poignant.
At the ceremony, each legion representative read the names of the soldiers in their jurisdictions who sacrificed their lives.
This Sunday beginning at 5:30 pm, a remembrance candle will be placed at each memorial marker as a tribute to the fallen from Wellington County.
Candles will remain lit until November 12, burning throughout Remembrance Day on November 11.
