WELLINGTON NORTH – Wellington North council was presented with a 4.5 per cent tax levy for 2025 during a council meeting this week.
The 2025 municipal portion of the tax bill would represent an annual increase of $62.78 for the average residential property.
Council directed staff to return with a report evaluating how to reduce the tax rate with Mayor Andy Lennox saying ” We need to be very aware of our resident’s ability to pay.”
Mayor Lennox said instead of the proposed preliminary increase, council recommended a tax levy increase between three and 3.5 per cent.
Councillors suggested more upgrades to the Mount Forest Cemetery be added to capital projects in 2025 and the purchasing of additional vehicles for the township’s fleet be delayed.
Lennox said the pickup trucks that are outlined in the budget are expensive to buy and operate.
The total 2025 proposed budget is $10,635,600.
Staff will return with a report detailing how to lower the tax increase at a later date.
