CENTRE WELLINGTON – Two local men have REEL big dreams, as they represent Team Canada at the 2024 Bass Master Team Championship in Tennessee this December.
This is how Derek Cushing and Dave Pol feel about being chosen to represent Canada at the fishing tournament.
Both men have been fishing for decades and have been competing as a team for three years.
They will depart on November 28 for the tournament that runs December 4-7. Derek Cushing of Salem says they will have 3.5 days to practice fish before the tournament begins.
Hoping to advance to that finals round, Dave Pol, of Fergus, says they need to hook some big ones.
To do this, Cushing says they will be looking for bass that you wouldn’t normally find in Ontario.
Along with a hefty cash prize and some endorsements, the winner of the tournament, is awarded the final spot in the Bass Master Classic, which comes with a 500,000 dollar prize.
Both Cushing and Pol are open with their love the sport and encourage others to give it a try.
They say there are multiple ways to keep track of how they are doing during the tournament.
As they countdown to their cast off date, Cushing and Pol, say they are busy putting final touches on their equipment and boat and are looking forward to the competition.
