ERIN – Erin Council has approved interim wastewater fees for residents in the new Erin Glen Community.
In a news release, the township says this will help offset the costs of managing wastewater before the Erin Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility comes online.
The memorandum brought to council on Dec. 12 recommended a fee of $83.33 monthly, or $1,000 a year to be remitted to the Erin Glen developer to help offset their wastewater management costs.
“These fees, established in a report from consultant Watson and Associates, take into account the historic water use from Erin households, as well as comparisons with other municipalities of similar sizes,” the township said in a news release.
Approximately 235 homes are anticipated to be occupied in the new community by the end of 2024.
The Erin Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility is expected to be operational in mid-2025.
In the meantime, the township says wastewater from the homes in the Erin Glen Community is collected in holding tanks and trucked to the Orangeville wastewater treatment plant until the Erin Wastewater Recovery Facility becomes operational.
