OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced he will resign as Prime Minister and Liberal leader.
Speaking at a news conference outside his Ottawa home Monday morning, Trudeau says he’s asked the Governor General Mary Simon to prorogue Parliament until March 24th and that she has agreed.
Trudeau says he will then step down once a Liberal leadership contest takes place.
His announcement comes less than a month after Chrystia Freeland resigned as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, leading to resounding calls for Trudeau to step down.
