WELLINGTON COUNTY – Originally launched in 2019, the brand-new, updated UG Connect app is part of a refresh to both the the app and website, and a shift away from posting on ‘X’.
The Upper Grand District School Board is encouraging parents to download the revamped mobile app, as they transition away from the platform formerly known as Twitter.
As of January 2025, the UGDSB will only be posting on X/Twitter for urgent matters (e.g. school closures, website down etc.). For updates, please follow the UGDSB’s Live Feed at https://t.co/sr62w45X7e and download the UG Connect mobile app: https://t.co/UJt5t3gfa4

The UGDSB’s Public Relations Manager Heather Loney tells the Grand at 101 this was a planned, and phased approach. She says the process started with limited posting to X.
Part of the reasoning behind the move, Loney says, was inappropriate conduct by those on board X posts.
Loney continued to say the new app has features like push notifications from your child’s school, an events calendar and much more.
She added she noticed a pull away from X by those the board was hoping to communicate with.
Hoping to offer a more customizable model, Loney reminds residents families will still get a call or email for urgent matters like school closures, power outages and other important notes.
She says the app is more streamlined, and also explained there’s more to learn, and still some things to add.
You can find the app, developed by software company Apptegy, on your cell phone’s app store.
