FERGUS – There’s now a recommended option soon to be presented for approval regarding attendance boundaries for the UGDSB’s new school.
The new elementary school, set to open in Fergus in September, led to four possible options for attendance boundaries for the Upper Grand District School Board. The selected option will be presented for approval at a February 25th board meeting.
Being presented as the recommended option is option three, which, according to a report from the board, would affect 219 students currently attending both Elora and Salem Public Schools.
This boundary would encompass the North Fergus development area, plus the subdivision along Sideroad 18, and homes along Sideroad 19 as well.
Ruchika Angrish, the board’s manager of planning, says several elements were involved in the decision making process.
While walkability was emphasized as far as being key in this decision making process, Angrish went on to say that was just one of the many factors that influenced the eventual decision to recommend option 3.
Reflecting on the excitement surrounding the new school, Angrish explained the rapid growth of Fergus and surrounding area contributed greatly to the choice to expand.
Angrish explains option four would have been a wider boundary, with option one only containing the Fergus Storybrook area, and options two and three expanding wider towards option four.
The UGDSB will look to make a final decision at their February meeting.
