WELLINGTON COUNTY – Following the implementation of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Cameras in Wellington County two weeks ago, county staff have an update on tickets issued.
Roads chair Gregg Davidson says it’s all about protecting vulnerable areas and their civilians throughout the region.
He went on to explain the number of issued tickets was high, and left staff taken aback.
Cameras have to date went live in Fergus, Aberfoyle, Palmerston Mount Forest and Drayton.
Davidson said he has asked the vendor for location-specific numbers as well, and added it’s no coincidence these areas were given the greenlight to put up cameras.
Community Safety Zones are currently the only areas wherein the province permits ASE cameras.
While Davidson can’t predict the future, he says if numbers follow the Canadian standard, the pattern would predict a dip in penalties issued over time.
Davidson reminds residents the speed limit is the speed limit. 50 means 50 he says, not 60 or 65, and he urges all residents to watch their speed all the time- not just in these zones.
The Hillsburgh and Rockwood locations have still yet to launch as they await Hydro One approval.
