WELLINGTON COUNTY – It’s official: The Ride Well Program rolls on.
The decision, made formal at a Wellington County council meeting late last week, didn’t come without much legwork.
Economic Development Chair and county councillor Jeff Duncan says an entire event was dedicated to mapping out what was to come for the program.
Ride Well, running Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. is an on-demand, publicly funded rural transit project that offers door-to-door service in Wellington County and Guelph.
One of the keys to the continuation of this on-demand service, Duncan noted, is a new funding resource that can be tapped into.
Crunching the numbers further, Duncan explained the gas tax will bring in $390,000, while the net levy is $238,000.
He says of course Ride Well makes its own revenue, and brings in about $115,000 itself.
Duncan went on to say a new zoning strategy will shape the future of a more accessible Ride Well.
He explains the GOST service is one of many “balls in the air” when it comes to the future of rural transit.
The one thing for certain after last week’s council meeting?
Ride Well is here to stay.
