WELLINGTON COUNTY – On February 27, 2025, during the Wellington County Council Meeting, the recipients of the 2024 George Bridge Economic Development Influencer Awards were announced.
This new Economic Development Awards programme was created to honour the contributions of Past Warden and Economic Development Committee Chair, George Bridge, to the field.
“The George Bridge Economic Development Awards recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to economic development in Wellington County,” said Jeff Duncan, Economic Development Committee Chair. “Today, we celebrate community leaders and highlight their important work that supports local economic development efforts. Congratulations to our 2024 recipients.”
Community Economic Development Influencer of the Year Award
Awarded to an individual who has made a significant impact on Economic Development in Wellington County. Eligibility extends to all members of the public, including community members, the business community, and various organizations.
Recipient: Rick Whittaker
As the General Manager of Wellington-Waterloo Community Futures (WWCF) for the past 22 years, Rick Whittaker has been a driving force in advancing economic development by fostering entrepreneurship, promoting job creation, and building economic resilience.
Young Professional Economic Development Influencer of the Year Award
Awarded to an individual new to the economic development profession, actively working in an economic development capacity within Wellington County.
Recipient: Laura Emery
In her role as the Communications and Committee Coordinator for the Township of Puslinch, Laura has played a pivotal role in advancing the Township’s economic development initiatives, including the planning and execution of the town’s first community showcase, the launch of the community guide and directory.

The Young Professional Economic Development Influencer of the Year Award was awarded to Laura Emery.
