NEWS RELEASE GUELPH POLICE SERVICE
The Guelph Police Service and our public safety partners will all have additional resources deployed this weekend and Monday to ensure those celebrating St. Patrick’s Day are able to do so safely.
As usual we have an extensive operational plan in place for the next few days which will see additional officers working closely with officials from City of Guelph Bylaw Compliance, University of Guelph Campus Safety Office, Guelph Fire Department and Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service.
The Guelph Police Service reminds anyone choosing to host or attend a gathering of the City of Guelph’s nuisance party bylaw. Under the bylaw, police or bylaw officers can issue fines of up to $1,000 for any party deemed to be a public nuisance as a result of:
- Unreasonable noise, loud music or shouting
- Littering
- Damage or destruction of property
- Public drunkenness, intoxication or disorderly conduct
- Public disturbance, fighting or violence
- People, crowds, vehicles or illegal parking that obstructs the free flow of traffic or could interfere with the ability to provide emergency services;
- Unlawful sale, furnishing or distribution of alcoholic beverages or controlled or illegal substances;
- Unlawful open burning or fireworks;
- Public urination or defecation
We encourage everyone to be respectful if they choose to celebrate. Before the celebrations begin, determine who you are going out with, how you are getting there and home and be respectful to all residents and business owners.
If that celebration includes consumption of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, please ensure you do not drive and plan ahead to ensure you have a safe ride home. Our officers will be conducting additional RIDE spot checks and other traffic enforcement initiatives throughout this period.
