CENTRE WELLINGTON – A report was endorsed by Centre Wellington council Monday night that serves as yet another step for OPA 126 boundary definitions.
Giving a report to council in Centre Wellington was Managing Director of Planning and Development for the township Brett Salmon.
Referred to as a “complex” process by councillor Jennifer Adams, and a lengthy one by Salmon, this report served as an update to Centre Wellington council. They saw revisions to the proposed boundaries township staff had put forward, made by the County of Wellington.
Salmon’s report notes OPA 126’s “expanded Settlement Area Boundary” is not identical to the boundary recommended by CW staff and supported in a meeting of council in October 2024.
Salmon explains to the Grand at 101, the fragmentation of several farm parcels was the largest area of revision at County level.
At the October 28th council meeting in 2024, there was discussion surrounding the fragmentation of several “large farm parcels” where the township’s proposed boundary didn’t include an entire parcel of land.
Salmon’s report details these instances were left in the hands of the County following their Agricultural Impact Assessment.
He says keying in on agricultural land was crucial throughout this lengthy process.
Township council, per the recommendation, adopted the boundaries proposed by OPA 126 with no additions, save 246 First Line. Located just East of the Elora-Salem Urban Centre, the township is recommending its inclusion within the adjusted Elora Settlement Area Boundary.
Salmon went on to add this next step in a lengthy endeavor is beneficial to all parties.
Next steps, Salmon explained, include County staff bringing forward County OPA 126 to their chambers for adoption.
