Four people were arrested recently after an investigation by the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit led to the seizure of 60 firearms and more than $20,000 worth of cocaine.
On Tuesday, April 8, two male parties were arrested in a parking lot in the west end of Guelph. Upon their arrest officers located a large amount of cocaine, with an approximate street value of $23,100. Also seized was a scale, 11 rounds of ammunition, and $2,750 in cash.
A 22-year-old Brampton man is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking a controlled substance, and unsafe storage of ammunition.
A 30-year-old Kitchener man is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, failure to comply with judicial release order, and two counts of breach probation.
As a result of the same investigation, the Guelph Police Tactics and Rescue Unit executed a search warrant April 9 on a residence in a rural area of Hamilton. During the execution of the warrant a male and female party were located inside the residence with two loaded firearms within close proximity. Upon their arrest, a search of the residence was completed and police found:
- Approximately 60 firearms, many of which were stored in a careless manner
- Thousands of rounds of ammunition, also stored in a careless manner throughout the residence
- An over-capacity magazine which is a prohibited device
- A 3D printer with a 3D-printed modified magazine
- A bullet reloading press
A 52-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman from Hamilton were each charged with two counts of careless use of a firearm (unsafe storage), possession of prohibited weapon/device or ammunition, and unsafe storage of a firearm.
All parties were held for bail hearings. Two have been released and two will appear in court Tuesday.
