MEDIA RELEASE TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON
CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Fergus Grand Theatre has received a grant of $59,578 to undertake a renovation of the second floor at the facility. The Grant, under the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund (CCSF), supports enhancing physical conditions for arts, heritage, culture, and creative innovation. The CCSF funds renovation projects, the acquisition of specialized equipment, and conducts planning, design, and feasibility studies related to cultural spaces in arts and heritage.
“This renovation marks an exciting step forward for the Fergus Grand Theatre.” said Mayor Watters. “It reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the arts and the many people—performers, volunteers, and technicians who make live theatre possible in our community.”
In July 2024, Council authorized staff to apply to the CCSF in support of renovations to the upstairs of the Fergus Grand Theatre. Upon receiving the news that the Township was successful in the grant application, staff approached Council to obtain approval for an additional project funding of $6,908.22 from the General Capital Reserve to fulfil the Township’s 50% commitment to the Fergus Grand Theatre CCSF grant application. The project also received generous support from the Fergus Grand Theatre Volunteer Committee, whose contributions continue to play a vital role in enhancing the theatre experience for all.
The project will transform the upstairs of the Fergus Grand Theatre into a safe, functional space that can be used by various client groups booking the theatre to prepare for their performances.
