ELORA – Book lovers, bookworms and bibliophile collectors wait all year for the first weekend in May to attend the Elora Festival’s Annual Giant Book Sale, to be held at the Elora Curling Club from May 2 to the 4th.
Alan Macdonald, Manager of Development and Operations for the Elora Festival says volunteers are hard at work getting everything organized for the three day book sale, which is expected to offer more than 60,000 gently used books of various genres, plus games, DVDs, CDs and records.
Now in it’s 34th year, the fundraiser is a significant event for the festival.
“It is immensely important,” Macdonald explains. “It’s actually our biggest single fundraiser for the festival, for the entire year. It raises over $60,000 to $65,000 on an annual basis from just $2.00 or $3.00 books. It’s really quite outstanding.”
The event draws hundreds each year, often with a line-ups for early shoppers. Macdonald offers some reminders to patrons planning to take part.
“If you are arriving on Friday evening, there is an admission. On Saturday and Sunday, it’s free admission” he said. “Bring your own bags and be prepared for lots of great finds.”
