Missing Person Found Safe
WELLINGTON NORTH – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Dufferin County OPP, locate Matthew safe, thanks to public assistance.
On May 12, 2025, Wellington County OPP launched an investigation when an abandoned vehicle was located in a ditch, and that the driver, Matthew, was deemed missing and there was concern for his safety.
On May 13, 2025, through the teamwork between both police, public and our media partners, Matthew was eventually located safe.
Wellington County OPP would like to thank everyone involved in brining this case to a successful conclusion.

The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) update with a possible sighting of Matthew, last know walking eastbound towards Grand Valley on Concession Rd 2-3, with an updated description.
On May 12, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a member of the public was reporting that they possible witnessed Matthew walking eastbound on Concession Road 2-3 towards Grand Valley.
Updated description given:
-Black Baseball Cap with a subdued Canadian Flag on the front of the hat
-Dark clothing
-Black Backpack
-Reported to be polite and coherent

ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(WELLINGTON NORTH TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking public assistance to locate a missing person.
On May 12, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP received a report of an abandoned vehicle in the ditch at the corner of Line 4 and East West Luther Townline, Arthur (just south of ‘Luther Marsh Wildlife Management Area’). The caller stated that the motor vehicle has been left there for two days before they notified the police to investigate.
As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the driver, Matthew, 25-years-of-age from the Freelton area, was reported missing on May 10, 2025, and was last seen by his mother.
The public can expect a police presence in the area for a prolonged period of time as a result of the investigation / search.
Matthew is described as:
-25 years of age
-5’8 in height / Slim build
-Brown curly hair, Light beard
-Blue eyes
-Black glasses
