MEDIA RELEASE COUNTY OF WELLINGTON
Aboyne, Ont. – Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA), in partnership with the Elora Fergus Arts Council, is proud to honour six secondary school students from the Upper Grand District School Board for their submissions to Emerging Insights, a juried exhibition.
Emerging Insights features 23 original artworks (selected from over 90 submissions) by students from Wellington County, Dufferin County, and the City of Guelph. Of the pieces featured in the exhibit, six were recognized with awards by Elora artist Rick Worthington at the exhibit’s opening gala on May 1.
Three students received Outstanding Artistic Achievement Awards:
- Rebekah McDougall, Wellington Heights Secondary School, for Cruelty Contextualized (Lino Print)
- Ben Anderson, Centre Wellington District High School, for Drowing the Witch (Arcylic)
- Naomi Jones, Centre Dufferin District High School, for A Merry and Melodic Waltz (Graphite)
Three students received Honourable Mentions:
- Jo Clark, Centre Wellington District High School, for A Crown in a Sea of Hyacinths (Watercolour)
- Vanessa van Wyk, John F. Ross C.V.I., for Innocent Little World (Acrylic)
- Adelaide Edwards, Centennial C.V.I., for Octopus (Terracotta, Acrylic Paint)
The awards were sponsored by WCMA, the Elora Fergus Arts Council, and generous private donors.
Emerging Insights runs until September 30, with admission by donation. The exhibit draws inspiration from the long-standing Insights Juried Exhibition of Fine Arts, now in its 44th year and on display at WCMA.
