GUELPH – A Kitchener man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges following a collision early Tuesday, which closed a major Guelph road for hours.
At around 2:50 a.m., Guelph Police were called to the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Hanlon Expressway.
Investigation revealed a motorist had just completed a left turn off the Hanlon when his car was struck from behind. Police say the impact destroyed both cars.
“The caller advised that the driver of the second vehicle was unconscious. Responding officers broke a window to gain entry to the vehicle and immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol,” police said in a news release.
The driver was removed from the vehicle and transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been released.
Woodlawn Road West was closed for several hours as police investigated the collision.
A 33-year-old Kitchener man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop at a red light.
