ROCKWOOD – Coming soon to the Rockmosa Playground is a new “tot lot,” complete with interactive play features and an inclusive swing set. The playground addition will be fit for those ages two – five.
Presenting the updated design to council in Guelph-Eramosa Monday was township Manager of Parks and Facilities Jeff Myer.
Myer explained to council staff had made the option to bid available on the township website and received five submissions. Upon review, Bowmar Landscaping, also responsible for the new volleyball courts at Marden Park, were awarded tender.
Myer says the design includes a concrete walkway to separate the area intended for kids 18 months – five years of age from the existing play structure.
The total estimated cost for the project is $226,000. Staff will be applying for a $30,000 grant to aid in that price tag, and are recommending this dollar value be covered under the working fund reserve.
“We can’t just replace and upgrade playgrounds ‘full stop,'” noted Mayor Chris White at yesterday’s Guelph-Eramosa council meeting. White was referencing the slow-down in the original process as a result of the pandemic.
He says he thinks those using the new tot lot will be “absolutely thrilled.”
The same play-safe rubberized surface will be added to the new area that will be separated by a pathway.
Council gave license to get the project moving at the meeting. For more find the full report here.
