GUELPH – A Guelph man was arrested Wednesday after police seized $18,000 worth of drugs and three replica firearms.
Earlier this year, the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit began an investigation after receiving complaints about possible trafficking taking place at a seniors’ residential complex in the city’s north end.
Police say a search warrant was executed Wednesday morning.
“During a search of the unit officers recovered quantities of suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine with a value of $18,000, as well as three replica firearms, drug packaging and more than $1,200 cash,” police said in a news release.
A 65-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens and will not allow the trafficking of these illegal substances to be normalized,” said Police Chief Gord Cobey. “We will be relentless in our efforts to hold accountable those who seek to profit from these dangerous drugs.”
